Princess Diana’s Shocking Secret: The Naughty Humor No One Knew About!
While the world often viewed Princess Diana as a symbol of elegance and empathy, those closest to her saw a more playful, down-to-earth side that rarely made it to the public eye.
Renowned hairstylist Sam McKnight, who styled some of the biggest names in fashion, had a front-row seat to this lesser-known version of Diana. Their working relationship began in 1990 during a photoshoot, and what started as a professional encounter quickly grew into a comfortable friendship that lasted for years.

McKnight described their first meeting warmly:
“She walked in with bright energy, extended her hand, and casually said, ‘Hi, I’m Diana.’”
There was no royal formality—just a woman with warmth, confidence, and charm.
Over time, Diana’s witty personality became even more visible. McKnight revealed that she had a habit of sending him hilariously bold birthday cards, many with adult humor. These cards came from a local Kensington shop and were far from traditional royal correspondence—filled with jokes and cartoons that only close friends would appreciate.

But her humor didn’t end with paper cards.
One of her more memorable jokes was inviting a group of international models to the palace while her son, Prince William, was home—just to watch his shy teenage reaction. It was harmless fun, but it showed Diana’s love for making people laugh.
Even after decades, people close to her recall these stories with a smile. In fact, in 2023, two of Diana’s handwritten cards to the former King of Greece, Constantine II, were auctioned for nearly $8,700. They too carried playful illustrations and suggestive notes—an honest reflection of her comedic taste.
Another stylist and longtime friend, Richard Dalton, also shared that Diana’s humor was often “naughty but hilarious,” calling her jokes “outrageously funny.”

Diana wasn’t just a royal by title—she was relatable and real, someone who found joy in making others laugh, even with a bit of mischief. Her ability to be lighthearted in private, while remaining graceful in public, is what made her so beloved.
McKnight, reflecting on their years together, admitted that no one has quite replaced the presence she had in his life.
“To this day, there’s a space she left behind that no one has filled,” he said.
